Upon reflection, last night's meal was a miracle. Those of you who know Peggy's "need for food" switch, and the speed with which it makes itself known, can you imagine the walk up the Bella Baita stairs at 9pm, having not eaten since early morning, wondering when and what Peggy would need to endure before something yummy arrived? Then the instant we walked in, we were welcomed by 5 other guests, our two hosts and 2 glasses of red, fruity, adult beverages and home made bread. Followed immediately by the dinner described in yesterday's post. MIRACLE #1
MIRACLE #2: After said lushy meal, with all its food and beverage courses, we hit the hay. Our hosts told us about the shutters and how they could be positioned to close out all light. They meant ALL light. Hitting the hay at 12:30...we didn't awake until 10:30 the next morning. What time is it? we rushed to breakfast...you remember that switch...and there were our hosts waiting with home made everything for breakfast. 10 solid hours of uninterrupted sleep...MIRACLE #2
It rained nearly all day as we relaxed, read, visited a local store that makes, and tastes, homemade digestifs. Returning back to the Bella Baita, we relaxed until dinner. The other guests had departed, leaving me and Peggy to have a private dinner with Marla and Fabrizio. They prepared fresh porcini mushrooms, which we finished off in a blaze of joy...and long before I remembered to catch a photo first...oh well. This was followed by totally homemade cheese raviolis:
The flax seed loaf of crusty heaven
was followed by the prosciutti and stinging nettles (we finally got our revenge from their attack 2 years ago by eating them this time) rolled inside tasty, tender poultry with rosemary reduced balsamic vinegar.
And finally this dessert...accompanied by homemade lemoncello and grappa rounded out MIRACLE #3
.Cherry Bread Pudding....Really? Really??? These are made with the first cherries from Pinerolo. Can you just taste the beauty of this? Oooops sorry to tease, but the entire meal was, need I say it...miraculous!
Seems we are in for another day of rain tomorrow...and our hosts have offered to take us around to visit their multiple wine making friends, and to the new Eataly in nearby Pinerolo.. Now tomorrow's forecast doesn't seem problematic at all :))))
The shutters are completely sealed off again, so perhaps another 10 hours of sleep awaits...and that would make for a 4th miracle. Ciao bella!!!
