So it's possible that some/most/all of my photos, like this one, describing George Clooney waving at us, may have been a bit overstated :))))
It turns out that he actually HAS been here these last few days...not that we ever saw him! Check out this clip from the recent People Magazine web site
Smooth Sailing for George Clooney, Elisabetta – andHis Long-Ago Ex!
George Clooney
Ramey
Clooney, 49, was spotted cruising Tuesday with his girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis and his ex Karen Duffy on Lake Como near his Italian villa. And don't worry – it was definitely smooth sailing.
Duffy, 49, an actress and long-time friend of the actor's, is not the jealous type. She got married in 1997 and speaks highly of her former flame – and his current girlfriend.
But enough of the hollywood star search as we have enough star power in and around us all the time....For example, KC Peterson was in the house for dinner last night. Or was it Kevin Beck???
Our day started with the truck that delivers fresh fruits to our B and B
It was another perfect day for a hike for the Gubitz team, while the Burls went shopping in Bellagio, and Steve dropped Aimee at the Milan airport. We traveled along the west side of Lake Como until nearly the northernmost tip of it then turned inland. We drove up some winding roads to reach our launch spot...a church cemetery high in the hills. (We have discovered that the further up you drive before walking, the less altitude you have to climb while walking...that's a math mind working for you...brilliant!)
Our destination was a GROTTO, or cave dwelling, that has become one of those "You've got to be kidding me, there's a restaurant here?" kind of places.
Along the way we saw Italian snow covered alps
And water flumes/waterfalls
Finally arriving at lunch
The return hike was just as lovely
After 7kms of hiking, we arrived back at our B and B, where Peggy and I both took a refreshing dip in the very chilly Lake Como water just beside our breakfast/dinner patio. The 65 degree water helped beat back the 92 degree heat. Elva chose to enjoy her balcony...she is the person on the far left hanging over the road :)))
Then came the best dinner we've had to date...and they've all been pretty amazing. Ty is a superb chef and he really outdid himself tonight!
Our amuse bouche was a cous cous spoon of delight!
Can you pick out which one Elva had from the photo above? No? How about from the photo below?
Ty also provided prosecco to quaff while we waited for our appetizers..tonight's appetizer was a plate of superb salamis and perfectly caramelized pearl onions...even though it may look like our hike lunch, it is sooo much tastier...there was salami from pig, goat and beef on this plate...can you tell which is which?
After appetizers we received our primi piatti...pasta with potato...not gnocchi, but lasagna styled noodles with small potatoes and lots of melted, crispy mozzarella cheese. And Stu, you know how much I appreciated the extra love on my melted cheese. huh..you feelin' me bro?:)))
Our main event was veal tenderloin nuggets with green peas and lots of other tasty stuff..the wedges on the side were perfectly toasted polenta crisps.
We finished off with a late harvest digestif along with Bing Cherry Pie....
Suffice to say, it was a royal meal for the Burls and Gubitzs. We made some new great friends along the way that evening. Scott, Sonya and Molly from Glenwood Springs. A small world since the only town we know in Colorado is where my high school all league (that's right...all-league) doubles tennis partner lives is Glenwood Springs! Can't wait to drop in on all of them the next road trip we take...
Meeting new friends along the way is one of the great joys of travelling! Tomorrow starts our 2nd half of the trip...no more Clooney sightings, but you never know who might be in the house as we will be meeting up with Jim and Christine...and you know how they always attract the paparazzi!!! Until later, ciao bella!
